New interview with the recently hosted Half-Life 2 mod, Curse:
Q: What kind of magic will you be able to use, and how will it be different from other mods and games in it's class?

Henry: The magic will incorporate fire, water, "pure energy", physical magic, and some of the kinetic powers. The reason why it will be different, is because there is no "mana" or "energy" which limits you in what you can do. There is simply a "charge" function. For weaker charge attacks, it may take 30 seconds to charge it, and while you feel as if you are loosing in a melee battle, you shoot a fireball at the opponent flying him back.

The problem I found in other games that incorporated magic, is that it simply used too much of an effort to destroy your opponent! The reason being? There was no other kind of attacks. This, in my opinion, will be one of the first games to actually use two different ways of attacking, both being equally useful and requiring as much skill the user can get.

Q: Is this mod intended for single-player or multi-player play?

Henry: For the first release candidate, it will be Multi-Player only. For future versions, I, and the rest of the team, definitely intend to incorporate singleplayer. Why? Because who wastes a perfectly unique setting and gamestyle on just multiplayer? You need some scripted action somewhere along those lines.

X-Tender has made a gallery to browser through the 3500+ custom made characters. The textballoons have been left out in the thumbnails to load quicker. SP2 IE users should allow pop-ups temporarily to load the characters in a new window. If you want to browse through all the characters you should be finished in... the end of the day :p so have fun :)
Check out the gallery here.

I've made two tutorials for drawing in flash. The first one is drawing signs (noobs) and the second one is drawing characters (also noobs). You don't need experience with flash at all. Check them out in the download section. Submit your drawings to: friendlygarg@friendlygarg.hlgaming.com

If you run a mod, and would like to see your models drawn to Half Park characters here, we now do requests. Contact Friendly Garg with the following info: modname, siteurl, model descriptions. friendlygarg@friendlygarg.hlgaming.com

Source: Stargate SGC
After a horrific website crash, Stargate SGC is back in action once again! This project just refuses to die! After several months of being down, all hopes of releasing a Half-life 1 version of SGC before HL2 comes out have been shattered, but now we are shifting focus to Half-life 2. You might have noticed other Stargate mods popping up here and there. I assure you that they will each bring exiting new game play to the table, but SGC plans to be something big. Not only will it be a Stargate game, but SGC will introduce several new things to the gaming world, like realistic weapon behavior: Pick up, load and camber each weapon, use iron sights, scopes, laser sights, flashlights, and other modular attachments. Fix jams, change firing modes, add a silencer. With SGC’s WeaponOps technology, players will be able to customize a weapon right down to its paint job.

When you get into a battle, you will FEEL it. Multiplayer will take advantage of the Half-life 2 engines AI system, putting the player in a battle filled with action no mater how many players are in the game.

Ride on board the X303, fly a death glider, shoot down an Ah’tack Goa’uld mother ship, SGC will introduce some of the most popular vehicles from Stargate SG-1 in both multi and single player.

No longer will your biggest weapon decision be between the AK-47 and the M-4, SGC introduces all new alien weaponry, and some of the U.S. Army’s next generation weapon systems. Don’t forget your high explosive C4 charges, claymores, hand grenades and flash bangs.

SGC is currently hiring staff members too! So if you are interested, E-mail sgcmod@sgc.halflife-mods.com with some examples of your work

Download: ATI Beta Drivers
ATI has decided to make the 8.07 beta driver available to the public for a variety of reasons:

* The 8.07 beta driver fixes a random hang issue with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic when loading / switching levels. We have received a significant number of bug reports for this issue and feel that it should be addressed as quickly as possible.
* ATI wants to provide its RADEON X700 customers with the same level of performance and gaming experience as shown in the recent RADEON X700 reviews. Unfortunately due to the time requirements to ship RADEON X700s to retail shelves a now out-dated 8.04 driver had to be used for the software CD.
* The 8.07 beta driver includes a memory allocation bug fix for all AGP RADEON products with 256 of MB of memory that significantly improves performance for applications that make intensive us [sic] of graphics memory.

The 8.07 beta driver has been submitted to FutureMark and will be approved for use with 3DMark05 shortly.

Source: Steam
The fourth phase of the Half-Life 2 preload begins to Steam account holders today.

This will allow users to download the majority of Counter-Strike: Source in encrypted form. No purchase is required to pre-load Half-Life 2, but is required to activate the game. The moment the game is made available, those who have pre-loaded and purchased the game via Steam will be ready to start playing.

You're probably all wondering why there haven't been any serious updates for 3 months. We don’t have a huge team like some of the other Half-life 2 mods and most of our modders are busy with real-life commitments. Our core team are close friends who have been working on mods for a few years now and have the knowledge to complete this mod, but not enough people.

We are currently understaffed and are looking for anyone that can help. If you're interested, send some examples of your work to daman: complexz@hotmail.com or me: raedonwolf@hotmail.com

Some of the jobs we could use help with:

Animators
We require two people to animate martial arts attacks(empty hand attacks, kicks, weapons) and some other features such as wallruns, flips and dives.

Modellers
We've got a huge list of weapons and characters that we want to get in-game for the first public beta. If you can also skinmap then that's a plus.

Mappers
The setting is Hong Kong. Map styles will be deathmatch, team-deathmatch, vehicle based, mission-based or combinations of any of these. If you're interested in making high detail real-world locations that would fit into the gritty, Hong Kong gangster world that is Chitan, then we'd like to hear from you.

Skinners
Our models won't make it past mesh without skins so we need a couple of people to skin weapon and player models. Also if you'd be interested in making Hong Kong style textures then we could use some help.

If you have a skill not on this list and think you could help us in some other way then send us an email.

Related: Reinstatement
Hello once again loyal Reinstatement fans! So what up!? Well I’ll go first – how’d you like to appear in this fine modification? I mean how’d you like to star in Half-Life 2’s Reinstatement modification!

Yup, we’re after keen individuals to contribute their likeness to a character that will be used in-game!

For more information click [ here ]
In other news I personally have been a bit tied up with the whole back to Collage thing but am optimistic that by the end of this week I will be able to reveal at least two new character models.

Other team members have been busy too – plus I’d like to officially welcome our latest recruit, Mr Florian Denos, to the team. He’ll be handling all of our coding-esk needs!.. Well – he’s been with us for a while now – that introduction is a bit delayed… as was this update – ahem.

Nevertheless – we’re still active and expect big things soon.
