ModDB has put online it's interview with Rick Ellis, senior engineering lead at Valve, here some words from the interview:

What capabilities does source have for expanding from the FPS genre?

Rick Ellis: Three of the biggest things that Source has to expand the FPS genre are facial expressions/animations, advanced AI and real world physics. The physics engine allows us to build new and very interesting types of game play while the facial expressions allow us to more realistically convey information to the user and help the user feel emotional about the game. The advanced AI will make fighting with teammates better as well as making opponents more realistic and in some cases more difficult.

The full interview can be found here.

FGD
Version 1.17 of the Sands-of-War FGD has just been released in Level Design forum. You will need this file if you are mapping for Sands-of-War.

It adds support for the info_location entity which will be introduced in Sands-of-War 1.4. Level Designers can place it and name it. Its name will be used in a bunch of radio messages which we also will introduce in Sands-of-War 1.4.

It does also add info_texlights which allow the mappers to have different data for light emitting textures on different maps.

Ofcourse this version also include the usual removal of redundant entities and improval of others.

A new piece of concept art has been released by the team of the mod Arctika:

Dr. Zais has finished some of the sketchs for all three of the types of players. They are of UNICORP and WDO which are on the same team. This group is trying to protect the arctic region that they already control from the uncoming invasion from the Dominion. The third sketch is of the Dominion soldier. All three of them still need a modeler to work on them. But the concept is done and ready to give an idea of what to expect in the frost bitten world of Arctika.

For more information on Arctika for Half-Life 2 go to our profile here on modDB or come to our website. We also can be reached on IRC in #defconsoftware on GameSurge. Arctika has a lot of features planned with new gameplay styles for single player and multiplayer. Get ready to fend of the Dominion invasion while trying to not get frost bite.

Go and check out the Arctika site for more.

As ironic as it is, I was in a nasty car wreck last week. It could have been worse, but the damage done to my arm was pretty bad. Burns, broken bone, and stitches are just some of the aftermath. I need help with Game-Jack. I can't type with one hand and keep up to date with all the news going on. I am hiring the following positions...
1. Co-Webmaster - Needs to know PHP & SQL.
2. News Poster - No prevous experiance required.
3. Forum administrator - New forum coming soon.
4. File uploaders - To upload some new stuff to Game-Jack

PS: In case you've been living under a rock for the past few months, CS:Source IS Counter Strike: Source, officially known as HL2's multiplayer.

HL2Files.com reports about a new Half-Life 2 mod that is now hosted by them. The mod is called Two-Thousand and Thirty and will feature:

Two-Thousand and Thirty is a Single andMultiplayer modification for Half-Life 2 set in the not-so distant future, naturally, in 2030. The mod puts the player in a vibrant and believable incantation of the United States twenty-six years from now. The mod is based off of what conspiracy theorists, sociologicists, and scientists predict the US will be like in 26 years. So there won't be any resemblances to Star Wars or anything like that, but we will have a mix of conventional (or old) weaponry and futuristic technology. We're a very new mod, and are always on the lookout for talent. If you think you can help in any way drop me a message at domino1@gmail.com.

Check out the mod webpage at: http://2030mod.hl2files.com
